hey left the kids with Grandma, hopped in the BMW and watched Los Angeles disappear in the rear view mirror. A few hours later and a world away, Ben and Amy opened the door to the breathtaking Renaissance room that would be their domain for a weekend of lavish comfort and unabashed luxury. They weren’t just Mom and Dad anymore, they were royalty, ensconced in a fantasy of rich colors and fabrics adorned in layers of trim and tassels. That night, they descended the stairs dressed to the nines, for wine and cheese in the Parlor, before heading out to dinner just a short walk away. The next morning presented a perfect breakfast downstairs, after which Ben took a walk in the garden, while Amy retreated to her room to pen a short note. Taking the personalized stationery created just for their stay, she sat at the leather-topped desk looking out on the San Diego Bay, and wrote: note to self: I love this place -- book this room for our Anniversary next month.
